On April 16th, 2025, Gulfstream Aerospace announced the all-new Gulfstream G800 has earned type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) along with certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). This was achieved with the longest-range business jet performing above expectations in gaining United States and European approval. These certifications allow Gulfstream to begin deliveries of the jet across the U.S and Europe.

“With the certification of the G800, Gulfstream has again exceeded expectations thanks to the expertise and rigor of our flight test, certification and manufacturing teams,” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream. “The G800 marks the latest evolution of business aviation as we continue to build the next-generation fleet and bring industry-leading performance and efficiency to the market. With the capability enhancements we have achieved, Gulfstream customers will greatly benefit from the increased flexibility and range the G800 offers.”

Gulfstream announced the G800 back in October 2021 with the aircraft making its first flight on June 28th 2024. According to Gulfstream, the G800 has a maximum range of 8,200 nautical miles (15,186 kilometres) at its long-range cruise speed of Mach 0.85, which is 200 nm (370 km) more than expected. By increasing the G800’s range to 8,200 nm, Gulfstream gains an advantage over its closest rival, the Bombardier Global 8000, though it should be noted that the Global 8000 has yet to be certificated.

The G800 can also fly 7,000 nm (12,964 km) at its high-speed cruise of Mach 0.90, or an impressive 8,000 nm (14,816 km) at Mach 0.87. Additionally, the aircraft’s maximum operating speed has been increased to Mach 0.935 from Mach 0.925. The G800 features a balanced field length take-off distance of 5,812 feet (1,771 meters) and a landing distance of 3,105 ft (946 m) under standard ISA conditions, both of which are shorter than previously announced, which allows access to more airports.

The G800 features the industry’s lowest cabin altitude of 2,840 ft (866 m) at 41,000 ft (12,497 m) – a standard shared with the Gulfstream G700. The ultralong range and high-speed performance of the G800 stem from its Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines combined with Gulfstream’s aerodynamic wing and winglet design, reducing the drag and leading to lower fuel consumption.

With the G650/ER production ending in February 2025, the G800 could potentially replace the G650/ER, with it using the same fuselage. According to Asian Sky Group’s Business Jet Fleet Report YE 2024, there were 116 G650/ER in the Asia-Pacific region at the end of 2024, making it the most popular business jet model. Both the G800 and the G650 series cruise at March 0.85, providing efficient travel without sacrificing speed. Also, it can equally accommodate up to 19 passengers, although the G650/ER offers a larger cabin space, the G800’s wider design enhances passenger comfort.
