Whilst the rest of the world began to slowly lift their Covid restrictions, Asian countries took a more cautious approach, especially mainland China, which was one of the last countries to open its borders again.

With China shut, and large-scale gatherings largely frowned up, the organizers of the annual Asian Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (ABACE), which had been held in Shanghai every year, had no choice but to cancel the event. The most recent ABACE was held in 2019, since then the show has not run again.

This left a big gap in the Asian business aviation calendar. Sure, there were other events where people could get together, like the annual Corporate Jet Investor conference in Singapore, or Asian Sky Group’s annual Asian Sky Forum, and whilst these conference settings are great for meeting and learning, Asia still lacked a dedicated business aviation exhibition, where companies could show off their latest products, and visitors could see first hand the latest innovations being made in the industry.

So with ABACE off the menu for the foreseeable future, a new event is going to be held, this time in Singapore. And although the event is new, the organizers aren’t –  It is being arranged by Experia Events, the team behind the Singapore Airshow.

Asian Sky Group sat down with the team behind the show for an exclusive interview:

Asian Sky Group (ASG) – What is the name of the show, and what format will in take?

Experia: Business Aviation Asia Forum & Expo (BAAFEx) will feature a dynamic mix of components to engage all participants. There will be a comprehensive exhibition showcasing the latest products, innovations, and technologies of the major business aviation industry players. Additionally, we are collaborating with Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) to bring a high-caliber conference component that will address key industry trends and insights. Attendees will also have the opportunity to experience an outdoor static display, where select aircraft will be showcased, providing a unique up-close perspective.

ASG – Why have you decided to launch the show now?

Experia: The decision to launch the show now comes from a clear need for a dedicated event focused on general and business aviation in this region. By establishing this platform, we aim to bridge that gap and foster meaningful discussions, networking, and innovation-sharing.

ASG – How many exhibitors are you expecting?

Experia: We are expecting between 60 to 80 participating companies at the event, showcasing a wide range of products and services across the business aviation eco system.

ASG – How many aircraft are you expecting to be in the static display?

Experia: We are expecting about 8 to 12 aircraft in the static display for this inaugural edition, with the aim to grow this number in future editions. Attendees will have a unique opportunity to get up close to these aircraft.

ASG – There are many business aviation shows, what differentiates this show from the others?

Experia: What sets our event apart is that it is the only business aviation show in the region specifically tailored to this market, hosted in Singapore, the premier aerospace hub and gateway to innovation, connectivity, and growth in the aviation industry. By offering a unique blend of both general and business aviation, we create a unique and inclusive platform that fosters collaboration and drives innovation across these sectors.

The show features an exhibition and a conference programme enriched by outdoor displays for interactive aircraft experiences. Partnering with Asian Business Aviation Association (AsBAA) allows us to present insights from industry leaders on critical issues, including sustainability. Our focus on meaningful networking opportunities ensures that attendees leave with valuable connections and insights tailored to the evolving aviation landscape.

ASG – Is Changi the best location for the show?

Experia: Yes, Changi Exhibition Centre is the ideal venue for holding the Business Aviation Asia Forum & Expo (BAAFEx). Situated on a sprawling 30-hectare site along Singapore’s scenic easternmost coast, Changi Exhibition Centre is one of Southeast Asia’s largest integrated venues. With 100,000 sqm of outdoor display space, ideal for static aircraft displays, and 40,000 sqm of fully air-conditioned exhibition halls, designed with versatility in mind to meet the specific requirements of BAAFEx.

ASG – If successful, will the show be held every year?

Experia: Business Aviation Asia Forum & Expo (BAAFEx) will be held biennially in the odd years. We plan to alternate the aviation focus each year, with Singapore Airshow dedicated to defence and commercial aviation held in even years, and BAAFEx focused on general and business aviation held in odd years.

The Business Aviation Asia Forum & Expo (BAAFEx) will be held in Singapore between March 4th – 6th 2025. You can find out more by visiting the official website at: www.baafex.com
